if you can find a portable black light...
we used to have 'scorpion detail' on base when i was stationed there....we'd take these black lights and look for shiny spots among the rocks and landscaping outside the barracks. then catch them and turn them over to the conservation service.
its fun...sometimes you find rare breeds this way.
